I'm new to Phoenix — do I need to redo my estate plan?
If you've moved to Phoenix from out of state and are wondering whether to update your will or trust, there are a few things to think about. A lot of people assume that just by moving, they need to update their estate plan. That's not necessarily true.
The best approach is to sit down and go over what you already have, instead of assuming you need to start from scratch. What we often see is that the move — combined with the fact that the documents are 10 or 12 years old — calls for some major updating. In those cases, we'll often create entirely new documents.

Review What You Have
Bring your existing documents in. We'll read through them with you and identify anything that may not work the way you'd expect under Arizona law.

Check the Age
If the documents are 10+ years old, life and law have likely both changed. A refresh is usually worth it.

Update or Rewrite
Sometimes a small amendment is enough. Sometimes new documents make more sense. We'll recommend the lightest path that gets you fully protected.

Probate, witness, and trust funding requirements vary by state. Some out-of-state forms simply don't work the same in Arizona.
